-AUTHOR & HOLOCAUST SURVIVOR-
RACHEL ROTH
HERE THERE IS NO WHY
Here There is No Why was the infamous Dr. Joseph Mengele's answer to Roma, Hela and millions of Jews who were trapped by the Nazis. Written to fulfill a promise made in the darkest moment in human history, this simple and eloquent story is unique, spanning the geography of the Holocaust.
Rachel Chencinski Roth (Roma in Polish), the teenage daughter of a journalist, is witness to life in the Warsaw Ghetto and a participant in the heroic Warsaw Ghetto uprising. She relays to us the daily events of a schoolgirl and her classmates under German occupation. After the Nazis smoke her out of hiding, she bravely faces the reality of the gas chambers. Enduring the remainder of the war with her Aunt Hela, as they are transported into and out of concentration camps in Poland and Germany.
Roth's experiences are sadly similar to many others', but her eye for detail and intimate writing style provide readers with a full, personal, and unique view of a tragic time... Roth writes in the present tense with great specificity, which adds immediacy to the events.
